The California Highway Patrol took part in a high-speed pursuit on the Bay Bridge in San Francisco on 2 April, but the suspect was of the four-legged variety. Police caught up with an escaped Chihuahua on the bridge in the morning, which was captured on video.

The dog has been labelled as missing, and police are seeking his owner. Police transferred the dog to San Francisco County Animal Care, and his owner can call them directly to claim him. Staff members named the dog Ponch, after the CHP Officer Frank Poncherello played by Erik Estrada in the TV show CHiPs.

A spokeswoman for the citys Department of Animal Care and Control said the dog wore a tag decorated with a human skull, but it had no identification. Deb Campbell said the dog was recovering from its misadventure.
