A Chicago mother of four is to be tried for sending money and military equipment to terrorist organisations such as ISIS and al-Qaeda.

Thirty-four-year-old Mediha Medy Salkicevic was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation along with five other Bosnian immigrants, CBS reported.

On Saturday, the court charged her with providing material support to terrorist outfits, including the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and the al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front.

She faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000. The terror case is to be tried in Missouri, where the five other defendants were arrested.

The intelligence agencies were alerted about Salkicevic after she sent several thousand dollars to one Ramiz Hodzic in St Louis via PayPal.

Investigations later intercepted several communications between Salkicevic and Hodzic, including one in which the latter sent the woman a photo of two sniper rifle scopes being shipped to Syria and Iraq. In her reply, Salkicevic told Hodzic that she hoped the equipment would be "put to good use."

The indictment against her alleges that she along with five others since May 2013 used email, phone and social media to communicate with terrorist group members and aided them with money and military equipment.
