Jose Mourinho, who has returned to Stamford Bridge for a second spell after leaving for Real Madrid five years ago, is said to be keen on signing a few players including Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

The 27-year-old England footballer, who has been sidelined ever since Robin van Persie joined Manchester United, has reportedly placed transfer request to Sir Alex Ferguson. He could well leave Old Trafford after nine years if the new coach David Moyes fails to convince him in the coming weeks.

Arsenal are said to be keen on signing Rooney, and the bold statement by its chief executive Ivan Gazidis to spend big on players supplemented their ambition. However, Chelsea are going to make an attempt to sign him, according to a report by the Independent.

Chelsea are also keen on signing Uruguayan footballer Edinson Cavani. Jose Mourinho has reportedly made a whopping £49.3million bid for Italian club Napoli's star striker Edinson Cavani, according to the Mirror. However, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis may not settle for Chelsea's offer as Cavani has a £53.5 million release clause.

"There is interest from Chelsea in Cavani, they'll call me in the next few hours. If Cavani is sold then I'll reinvest all of the £53.5 million of his release clause. I'll be delighted if he stays, but if he leaves then he will be adequately replaced," Laurentiis had earlier said on Napoli's official radio station.

It was reported that Chelsea were keen to bring in Cavani and even willing to offer its star striker Fernando Torres as part of an exchange. However, Jose Mourinho may face stiff fight from Real Madrid, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, who have also shown interest in him.

Several players including Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder, Edin Dzeko and Eliaquim Mangala have been linked to Chelsea.
