Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma could be set for a move to Italian side Lazio in the January transfer window, reports in Italy have claimed.

Italian newspaper Il Messaggero has reported that Lazio are interested in the player and head coach Stefano Pioli sees the defensive rock as an ideal player to suit his game plans. The daily also stated that Chelsea could be on the verge of sending the player on loan to the Italian side following Christmas.

The Blues also are reportedly looking for a fee of around €1 million for the temporary loan deal involving the player; Lazio seems willing to pay that.

Lazio registered a shock 2-1 win over Serie A toppers Inter Milan in an Italian league game at San Siro last weekend, and Pioli sees the win as a resurgence for their side. Bringing on the likes of Zouma can also give an edge to their season going ahead.

The future of Zouma at Stamford Bridge, meanwhile, remains in doubt as Jose Mourinho was the one who signed him from Saint-Etienne in January 2014, but now the Portuguese manager is no more in charge of the club.

Zouma, 21, has missed just a single game for the Blues in the Premier League this season. He has also got on the scoresheet once. His current contract with Chelsea runs until the summer of 2019.
