Jose Mourinho has insisted he wishes to stay as manager of Chelsea after the clubs 2-1 defeat against Leicester City meant his side has lost nine Premier League games out of 16 this season.

Strikes from Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez gave the Foxes a two-goal lead before Loic Remy pulled one back for the Blues. The result keeps surprise package Leicester at the top of the Premier League table, while reigning champions Chelsea toil in 16th position, just a point above the relegation zone.

Despite this, the 52-year-old manager was adamant in the post-match press conference that he wanted to remain at the club, adding he hoped the board felt the same way. He said: The last question is always the same. The only thing I can say is that I want to be the manager.

I have no doubts and I think you know me well enough to know that I am not afraid of a big challenge and in this moment it is a really big challenge. I want to stay and I hope Mr Roman Abramovich and the board want me to stay because I want to stay.

The result leaves Chelsea 20 points behind leaders Leicester and 14 points off a top-four Champions League spot.
