Noted lyricist Annamalai passed away on Tuesday, September 27, after suffering a severe heart attack. He was 49 and is survived by his wife and daughter.

Annamalai started his career as a journalist and graduated into a lyricist with the film Kummalam, which was released in the year 2003. Music director Vijay Antony encouraged him during initial years and associated with him in many of his films. They had churned out hit albums like Ilayathalapathy Vijay's Vettaikaran and Velayudham.
