PALM SPRINGS
The Palm Springs International Film Festival kicked off the new year and award season
with stars flocking to the desert community. ‘Selma’ star David Oyelowo & ‘Gone Girl’s’
Rosamund Pike each picked up the Breakthrough Performance award and Eddie Redmayne &
Julianne Moore received the Desert Palm Achievement Award. Other stars on the
red carpet included Robert Downey Jr., Reese Witherspoon, Steve Carell, J.K. Simmons,
Benedict Cumberbatch, Felicity Jones & Robert Duvall. Witherspoon, who received the
Chairman’s Award for the film ‘Wild’, spoke about what it means to be given this honor.

‘Birdman’ director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and star Michael Keaton spoke
about the fun of making the film.

‘The Voice’, U.K. style, held its series launch with singing legend Tom Jones being
joined by Will.i.am, Rita Ora and Ricky Wilson at the event.
