Acclaimed author, poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou has passed away at the age of 86. The celebrated writer was most known for her groundbreaking memoir I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings - which made history as one of the first nonfiction best-sellers by an African American woman. In addition to being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2010, she was also honored as one of Glamour’s Women of the Year in 2009.
