The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the eagerly-awaited Class XII results on Monday.

The total pass percentage this year is 82.10 percent, which is two percent more than the previous year's result. A total number of 9,44,721 students appeared for the exams this year, which marked an increase of 15.81 percent.

Girls outshined boys again this year too, registering 87.98 pass percentage as compared to boys at 77.78 percent. The Chennai region once again scored the highest pass percentage with 91.83 percent.

The Class XII results are significant for students who are aspiring to join Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) as weightage is given for performance in Class XII. The rank holders in the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) advance (new format) must be among the top 20 performers for admission to the IITs.

The cut-off scores for the top 20 percentile are 391 for general category students, 389 for OBC, 350 for SC and 338 for ST.

The CBSE has initiated a tele-counselling programme for students with the aid of 45 experts - 37 from Indian and eight from countries like Japan, Kuwait, Doha-Qatar and Saudi Arabia, UAE and Sultanate of Oman.

Through the Centralized Access System (CAS) programme, students can dial the toll free number '1800 118 004' from any part of the country and get in touch with the operator for general queries related to results or with counsellors for one-on-one telephonic counselling, from 8 am till 10 pm, said a statement from CBSE.
