The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday said its investigation into the alleged NEET-UG 2024 paper leak found no evidence linking Sanjeev Kumar, alias Sanjeev Mukhiya, to the theft or distribution of the examination question paper, PTI reported.
In a statement, the agency said its probe had identified the entire conspiracy behind the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak, including those involved in stealing and circulating the question paper, as well as all candidates who allegedly benefited from the leak.
The case was initially registered by the Bihar Police after it uncovered the theft of the NEET-UG 2024 question paper. Mukhiya was named as an accused in the FIR based on prima facie suspicion, as he had allegedly been linked to other examination paper leak cases.
After the investigation was transferred to the CBI, the agency said it carried out a detailed probe that identified "each and every person" involved in the theft and distribution of the leaked paper. It has since filed multiple chargesheets against 45 accused before a court in Patna.
However, the CBI said it found no evidence to establish Mukhiya's involvement in the theft or circulation of the NEET-UG 2024 question paper.
"In the course of its investigation, the CBI did not come across any evidence to establish the involvement of Sanjeev Kumar alias Sanjeev Mukhiya in the theft or distribution of the stolen NEET-UG question paper in 2024," the agency said, according to PTI.

He has not been convicted or sentenced by any court.

The agency added that its investigation was "detailed and thorough" and that it was satisfied the entire conspiracy had been uncovered, with all those involved identified.
The CBI also clarified that Mukhiya had remained absconding during the relevant period before being arrested by the Bihar Police in connection with other cases. Since he had been named in the original FIR, the agency took him into custody for questioning during its investigation.
"As no evidence of his involvement in the NEET-UG 2024 case emerged during the investigation, the CBI did not file any chargesheet against him in this case, and he has accordingly availed bail in the NEET-UG case," the agency said.
Despite securing bail in the CBI case, Mukhiya remains in judicial custody as he is an accused in other cases being investigated by the Bihar Police.
