Director Hemanth Hegde's upcoming Kannada film "Nimbe Huli" has made headlines for several wrong reasons and it is back in news once more. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party is expected to halt its release in Tamil Nadu claiming that the film features its leader Karunanidhi and his daughter Kannimozhi in an unfavourable light.

This fresh controversy of the movie started after the producers of "Nimbe Huli" released the first look, which features Bullet Prakash in the getup of DMK Supremo Karunanidhi. Irked by the poster, members of the party took to the roads and demanded its ban in the state, following which a court has issued a stay order on the release of the film.

However, sources from the production team believe that though Bullet Prakash is playing an important character named Karuna Ranga and his looks and getup are a bit similar to that of Karunanidhi,  the movie does not bear any other resemblance to the DMK leader or his daughter Kannimozhi. "Nimbe Huli" was scheduled to release on 25 December, but has been delayed due to the controversy. Sources add that all the issue will be sorted out soon and the movie will hit screens on 31 December.

The film has managed to stay in the limelight for various reasons. Earlier Komal Jha, who is playing one of the three female leads, had complained about the low-cost attires given to her during its shooting, but Hemanth had denied her claims. A few days later, the director expressed his disappointment over Komal's unprofessional attitude. The movie was also in news over one of its songs irking religious groups.

Bollywood actor Anupam Kher, who was to foray into the Sandalwood with this film, walked out of the project. Talking about the film, the actor said that the director was unnecessarily creating controversies for its publicity. So he opted out of the film.

"Nimbe Huli" is a romantic comedy entertainer, which is based on cricket betting. Besides direction, Hemanth Hegde is also playing the male lead, while Nivedhitha, Komal Jha and Madhurima essay the female leads. Veera Samarth has composed tunes for the lyrics written by Dundiraj and Vinayaka Bhat.
