20: 10 p.m. IST: "Sedition charge on JNU students is not a topic of debate here, it will be decided by court": Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Lok Sabha.

19:21 p.m. IST: Irani now moves to the JNU issue. She said that Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya had raised anti-India slogans. 

19: 13 p.m IST: Smriti Irani gets emotional during her statement. "They have accused a mother of murder," she said in the House. "I will take it personally."

19: 05 p.m. IST: HRD Minister Smriti Irani speaks in the Lok Sabha against Congress' allegations against her over the Rohith Vemula suicide issue. 

"A student dies and parties use it for politics," Irani said. 

18:25 p.m. IST: "We hanged Afzal Guru, while you(BJP) entered into an alliance with a party which was against Guru's hanging (People's Democratic Party)," Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said. 

17:40 p.m. IST: "Nobody has said that the whole JNU is anti-national. Actions and inquiry have been initiated against those who raised the slogans," BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu said.

15:22 p.m. IST: Scindia hits out at Home Minister Rajnath Singh over his accusations that Pakistan terrorist Hafiz Saeed supported the JNU event commemorating Parliament attacker Afzal Guru. 

15:21 p.m. IST: "The government is crushing the voice of dissent," Scindia said, according to the Lok Sabha TV. 

15: 10 p.m. IST: The Rohith Vemula issue has been taken up in Lok Sabha as well. Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia says the BJP government's intervention in the issue was "needless."

14: 55 p.m. IST: Rajya Sabha adjourned once again. 

14:52 p.m. IST: "Are we saying that the capacity of a judge to deliver justice depends on his caste?" Smriti Irani asked. 

14:38 p.m. IST: BSP chief Mayawati reiterates her demand for a Dalit to be include in the inquiry on the Rohith Vemula suicide issue, says House will not be allowed to function on Thursday. 

14:22 p.m. The Rajya Sabha session has resumed. Deputy Rajya Sabha chairman PJ Kurien accuses BSP members of "holding the House to ransom."

14: 13 p.m. IST: Deputy Rajya Sabha chairman PJ Kurien adjourns the house for 15 minutes after threatening action against members raising slogans in the House. 

14:11 p.m IST: Irani hit back at the Opposition, accusing them of "using a child as a political tool."

14:08 p.m. IST: The Rajya Sabha session has resumed, with Opposition parties demanding the resignation of HRD Minister Smriti Irani over the Rohith Vemula suicide issue.

12:39 p.m. IST: Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari adjourns the House till 2 p.m.

12:33 p.m. IST: The Rajya Sabha resumed again to shouts by some members of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) calling the government "anti-Dalit."

12:15 p.m. IST: The Rajya Sabha has been adjourned for the fourth time. In the Lok Sabha, Congres leader Mallikarjun Kharge asked Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to take up the issues of the JNU row for discussion.  

12:01 p.m. IST: The Rajya Sabha session has resumed. Chairman Hamid Ansari immediately adjourned the House for ten minutes as several members continue to raise slogans against the government. 

11:37 a.m. IST: Deputy Rajya Sabha chairman PJ Kurien has adjourned the house again till noon. 

11:34 a.m. IST: Left leader Sitaram Yechury has asked if a Dalit member will be included in the inquiry committee on the Rohith Vemula issue. Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad also raised a similar point in the Rajya Sabha. 

11:30 a.m. IST: The Rajya Sabha session has resumed. The Lok Sabha is currently conducting the Question Hour and will discuss the JNU issue at 2 p.m.

11:20 a.m. IST: The Rajya Sabha has been adjourned briefly following an uproar. BSP MPs had stormed the Well of the house. 

11:15 a.m. IST: In the Rajya Sabha, BSP leader Mayawati raised the issue of Rohith Vemula, a Dalit student who committed suicide earlier this year after being suspended.

"Dalit students are targeted," Mayawati said in the Upper House,according to the Rajya Sabha TV.

The first working day of the Budget session in Parliament Wednesday is set to be shrouded by the case of Hyderabad University student Rohith Vemula's suicide and the row at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus. Adjournment motion notices had been filed on the the issues as well as on the recent Jat agitation for reservation. 

The Congress party is expected to lead the Opposition against the government on these issues. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called for a meeting of senior cabinet ministers ahead of the session on Wednesday. He had reportedly told his party members in a metting Tuesday to "aggressively" counter accusations. 

In an all-party meeting, the BJP-led government had agreed to discuss the raging issues and had called for smooth passing of key bills in Parliament.
