Pantel Technologies, a pioneer developer of affordable tablets, launched Penta T-Pad WS703C on Wednesday with a price tag of ₹6,999.

The device is claimed to be India's first tablet PC with a 2G SIM slot for voice call facility. The tablet was unveiled by Telecom and IT Minister Kapil Sibal, who presented the tablets to Kerala's SSLC - 2012 exam toppers at a recent event held in Kerala.

Speaking at the event, Pantel's Managing Director Vijender Singh said," India aspires to increase its literacy rate. In this age of rapid digitalization, it is imperative to incorporate digital solutions to aid educational developments. It gives me immense pleasure to launch the latest offering from our stable powered by BSNL data connectivity.

"A 2G SIM based tablet PC for voice call and 3G compatibility through a dongle is yet another milestone in offering affordable digital computing solutions to the Indian student community," he added.

The tablet maker joined hands with state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSN) to sell the device with attractive offers. The data plans offered through this tie up include up to 60 days validity for 4 GB of 2G data for ₹125 and 2 GB of 3G data for ₹150 from the time of purchase.

IT Minister Sibal said the launch of the tablet will open many forums for students, who will in turn contribute to the democracy.

With the launch of Penta T-Pad WS703C students have more choices in the classroom, which in turn increases the canvas of democracy... Penta T-Pad WS703C Tablet comes with a 7-inch 16M colour Multi-Touch Capacitive touch screen display and runs on Android 4.0.3 OS. It packs a 2 GHz Cortex A8 processor, a 3000 mAh battery and 512MB DDR3 RAM with 4GB memory onboard expandable up to 32GB.

Other specifications include a TF card expansion slot, front and rear facing cameras of 0.3-megapixel resolution, multi-format audio features, video player, eBook Reader, WIFI, 3G (via external dongle), USB OTG, Mini USB, HDMI port and Bluetooth.
