In this weeks Music Minute, we look at the highlights from the 2016 Brit Awards. As expected, the night belonged to Adele, who walked away with a staggering four awards.

Adele wins big

The singer won British female solo artist, global success, British single of the year for Hello and the coveted British album of the year for the record-breaking 25. At one point, Adele couldnt hold back the tears when British astronaut Tim Peake presented her with an award from space.

Adele also used one of her acceptance speeches to publicly show support for US pop star Kesha, who recently lost her legal battle against Sony Music and Dr Luke following allegations of sexual assault against the music producer.

Justin Bieber, Drake and Rihanna dazzle on stage

Elsewhere, there were some pretty incredible performances from the likes of Justin Bieber, who brought fire, quite literally, to the stage; Little Mix, who cast their spell on the O2 Arena with Black Magic; and Rihanna, who twerked up a storm to her new single Work alongside special guest and collaborator Drake.

David Bowie tribute

Later in the evening, the festivities were briefly halted to pay tribute to David Bowie, who died in January. Annie Lennox and Gary Oldman moved the audience with heartfelt speeches recalling fond memories of the iconic singer, while Lorde performed a phenomenal rendition of Bowies hit song Life On Mars.

Also walking away winners were James Bay, who was crowned British male solo artist; One Direction, who scooped video of the year for Drag Me Down; and Coldplay, who were named best British group.

Overall, an enjoyable night with some great performances and a good time had by all but next year, lets have a bit more diversity amongst the nominees to make for an even greater show.
