Rajinikanth is likely to join hands with director Shankar. If this happens, this will be their third film after blockbusters "Sivaji" and "Enthiran".

The news has been broken by journalist Latha Srinivasan on Twitter. The post says that they are likely to join hands again and AR Rahman will be joining them again to compose the music. She wrote, "Hot news - @superstarrajini s next film likely to be with @shankarshanmugh! @arrahman will be scoring the music "

It is said that Lyca Productions, which had produced Vijay's "Kaththi", will bankroll the project. Other details are under wraps and only be revealed in the coming days.

Earlier, it was said that Shankar would team up with Bollywood star Aamir Khan for a multilingual movie. Prior to those reports, it was said that the filmmaker would direct Hrithik Roshan. Now, those reports seem to have turned false.

On the other end, there were also reports that Rajinikanth would be teaming up with AR Murugadoss for an action-thriller movie. Aascar Ravichandran was in talks with the superstar for a mega-budget project.

However, Rajinikanth is due for a hit after his last two movies failed to make good business at the box office. His high-budget animation movie "Kochadaiiyaan" and KS Ravikumar's highly-expected film "Lingaa" did not live up to the audience expectations.
