The Delhi Police arrested underworld don Ejaz Lakdawala's handler and sharp shooter Mohammad Yusuf on Wednesday, averting a murder bid.

Gangster Lakdawala had assigned Yusuf the task of murdering three businessmen; two in Mumbai and one in Delhi, for which he had hired two shooters from Punjab.

"Mohd. Yusuf had hired two shooters from Punjab to execute the task assigned to him," The Hindu quoted a senior police officer as saying.

The police will address a press conference at 3 pm on Yusuf's arrest, according to news reports.

Lakdawala is one of the most wanted underworld dons allegedly accused of involvement in over 20 cases of extortion, attempt to murder and rioting. He was arrested in 2004 by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Ottawa, Canada.
