Mahesh Babu's "Brahmotsavam" has failed to set new records for the first day collection at the Andhra and Telangana (AP/T) box office. Released in over 900 screens in the two states, the Telugu movie has been hit by bad word-of-mouth and rainy weather.

As a result, the Tollywood film, which was expected to break several box office records, has failed to create a history. The box office numbers are still being compiled and the makers are expected to reveal the numbers very soon. But early estimates suggests "Brahmotsavam" has earned around Rs. 13 crore from the AP/T regions, Andhra Box Office reported.

It means "Brahmotsavam" has not beaten the first day AP/T box office record of Pawan Kalyan's "Sardar Gabbar Singh," which had grossed Rs. 26.9 crore with the distributors' share of Rs. 20.92 crore.

"Brahmotsavam" had got a good response for advance booking and the trade experts had predicted the movie to do rocking business on the first day at the box office. Looking at the craze around the flick, single screen exhibitors had additional shows in the morning to meet the demand.

But what should have turned out to be an advantage for the Mahesh Babu's film became a spoilsport as the movie carried largely negative reviews from the first shows. Apparently, this had an impact on the film at the box office.

In the U.S., "Brahmotsavam" registered fantastic occupancies for the premiere and it helped the movie earn $557,000 from the special shows. But the film's collection has been reportedly dropped on Friday due to bad word-of-mouth.

However, the success of "Brahmotsavam" at the box office largely depends on how it will perform in the weekend. The industry hopes that the film will pull family audience to theatres in huge numbers so that the producer and distributors recover their maximum investment in the first three days.

"Brahmotsavam" has been written and directed by Srikanth Addala. It is jointly produced by Prasad V Potluri and Mahesh Babu. Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha and Pranitha play the female lead characters in the flick, which has Naresh, Sathyaraj, Jayasudha, Revathi, Saranya Ponvannan, Tanikella Bharani, Tulasi and others in the cast.
