Siddharth-Lakshmi Menon's "Jigarthanda" continues to dominate the Chennai box office, even in its second week.
With no other Tamil releases during the last weekend, "Jigarthanda" has had a successful run at the box office. The film took a good opening and minted ₹2.03 crore in 10 days at the Chennai box office, according to Behindwoods.
The musical gangster film has managed to maintain its business, thanks to the positive feedback from the critics and audience. It is expected to dominate the screens until the release of Suriya's "Anjaan" on 15 August.
With the film creating huge buzz, it is all set to have grand openings at the box office. The release of "Anjaan" is likely to affect "Jigarthanda" as there will be a decrease in the screen count. The box office status of "Jigarthanda" is expected to be known at the end of its third week.
The film is likely to be remade in Bollywood, according to the latest reports. Apparently, some Bollywood producers have evinced interest in remaking the film. However, nothing has been finalised yet.
Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, "Jigarthanda" is about an aspiring filmmaker who does a case study on a real gangster to make a gangster film. The film has Simha and Karunakaran in supporting roles.
Not just the critics and the audience, several film celebrities including directors Shankar, Maniratnam and K. V. Annad, Kushboo, Samantha and Dhananjayan Govind of UTV Motion Pictures have also appreciated the musical gangster flick.
