With just 25 days left, all eyes are now on the release of Aamir Khan's "PK", which is set to hit the screens on 19 December.

"PK" is already creating a huge buzz through the release of the film's posters, teasers and the songs. The film will be the last big release of 2014 and there are big expectations on the Aamir starrer as it marks the reunion of the actor with director Rajkumar Hirani, which created one of the biggest hits in the history of Indian cinema - "3 Idiots".

"PK" will be having a solo big release as there are no other biggies set to hit the screens around the same time. The film will be enjoying a long opening due to Christmas holidays. It is expected to take big openings in the first weekend, but whether it will set any new records is something one needs to wait and watch. If "PK" manages to impress the audience, it is likely to continue its successful run at the box office for at least three weeks as there will be no big releases till then.

2014 has been fruitful for top-league actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Ajay Devgn as their films "Happy New Year" ("HNY"), "Kick," "Bang Bang" and "Singham Returns" have fared fantastic business at the box office. It remains to be seen if "PK" will end the year on a grand note by surpassing the collections of these films.

SRK's "HNY" is the highest grossing Bollywood film of the year worldwide (so far) with ₹379 crore (gross) collections. The film is still running successfully in theatres across the world. On the other hand, Salman's "Kick" is the highest grossing Bollywood film of the year at the Indian box office. The action entertainer has minted over ₹230 crore in India, according to Koimoi.

"PK" will have only 13 days in this year to surpass "Kick" and "HNY" collections and emerge as the highest grossing Bollywood film of 2014 in India and worldwide, respectively.

It will be interesting to see if the Aamir starrer will be able to break the collections minted by "HNY" and "Kick."

Aamir's last year release, "Dhoom 3" is still the highest grossing Bollywood film of all time - with around ₹280 crore domestic and ₹542 crore (gross) worldwide collections. Considering Aamir's star power and the long holidays, "PK" is expected to perform well at the box office.

The comedy drama is expected to be a satire on Hindu gods and godmen. The film's director has maintained suspense over its storyline, but it seems the Aamir starrer will have a Gandhian touch, according to reports.

Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput, Sanjay Dutt and Boman Irani will appear in supporting roles in "PK". The film is produced jointly by Vinod Chopra Films, Rajkumar Hirani Films and UTV Motion Pictures.
