Vikram Prabhu's 'Vellaikaara Durai' is in number one position at the Chennai box office, beating "Lingaa", "Meaghamann", "Kayal", "Pisaasu", and "Kappal" in the last week (29 December 2014 to 4 January 2015).

From fourth position in the previous week (22 to 28 December), "Vellaikaara Durai" has performed well to occupy the first position, reports Behindwoods. The Tamil movie had 279 shows and earned ₹53.22 lakh in Chennai last week. The total collection of the movie stands at ₹86.18 lakh. The comedy content is said to be a crowd-pulling factor.

'Meaghamann'
Arya starrer "Meaghamann" has been pushed to second position. The movie, from 264 shows earned ₹52.07 lakh last week. The total collection of the Tamil movie is ₹1.15 crore. The action part is attracting viewers. 

'Kappal'
Shankar produced "Kappal"  improved its collection last week. The movie, which was in the sixth position, was in the third slot last week. It had 244 shows and made ₹46.40 lakh. The total collection of the flick stands at ₹64.34 lakh. The film is attracting urban audience and the youth segment.

'Kayal'
Prabhu Solomon's "Kayal" has earned ₹45.25 lakh from 265 shows last week. It was in the second position in the previous week. It slipped to the fourth slot last week and has minted a total of ₹89.15 lakh from Chennai. The good content is the highlight of the movie.

'Lingaa'
Rajinikanth's "Lingaa" continued to draw audience even in its fourth week. The Tamil movie has raked in ₹36.16 lakh from 186 shows. So far, the movie has collected ₹6.57 crore from Chennai alone. The Rajini factor is the biggest attraction and crowd-pulling factor for this flick.

'Pisaasu'
Mysskin's "Pisaasu" had 219 shows last week in Chennai. The movie raked in
35.62 lakh last week and the total collection of the flick stands at 1.27 crore.
