There is going to be the clash of the titans at the box office during the festive season of Pongal in January 2014.
Two of the biggest stars of Tamil cinema - Ajith and Vijay, will reportedly have their respective films hit the theatres on the same day.
Ajith is currently working on a film directed by "Siruthai" Siva. According to a press release from the film's producers Vijaya Productions, the untitled flick will be released during Pongal 2014. Nearly 50 percent of the film's shoot is over including two songs which have been canned in Switzerland.
If the latest reports are to be believed, Vijay's "Jilla" might hit the theatres during Pongal.
Both the actors have a huge fan following in south India. They are one of the most sought-after actors of Tamil cinema. Expectations for their films soar even before they get released. It is not the first of its kind for an Ajith starrer to clash with Vijay's film. It has happened on several occasions in the past.
The last time their films were released on the same date was in 2007. Ajith's "Alwar and Vijay's "Pokkiri" hit the theatres during Pongal in that year. While "Pokkiri" was a blockbuster, "Alwar" failed to set the cash registers ringing. The other films of these big stars that clashed at the box office are - "Villain and Bhagavathi" in 2002, "Thirumalai and Anjaneya" in 2003 and "Aadhi and Paramasivam" in 2006.
After a long time, fans might get to see Ajith and Vijay films getting released on the same day next year. However, there is no official confirmation regarding the release date from the makers of "Jilla". Directed by debutant RT Nesan, "Jilla" has Kajal Aggarwal playing the female lead. Malayalam actor Mohan Lal and Poornima Baghyaraj are featured in pivotal roles.
On the other hand, Ajith's untitled film is said to be of a rural subject. The film has Tamannah playing the leading lady. The other cast members include Santhanam, Bala, Vidharth, Vidhyulekha Raman and Pradeep Rawat.
