Vijay's "Jilla" and Ajith's "Veeram" have done terrific business in 10 days at the Chennai box office.

The Vijay and Ajith starrers opened to a fantastic response on the first day of its release and continued to perform well.

"Jilla" was leading over "Veeram" at the end of the first weekend (10 to 12 January) in Chennai. The Vijay-Mohanlal starrer is estimated to have collected ₹1.32 crore in its opening weekend in Chennai, whereas Ajith's film fetched ₹1.23 crore. But, at the end of the second weekend, "Veeram" has managed to overtake "Jilla" and take the top spot at the Chennai box office, according to a Behindwoods report.

The website reports that "Jilla" earned ₹3.86 crore from 13 January to 19 January, whereas "Veeram" fetched ₹3.92 crore in the same period. The Ajith starrer is ahead of "Jilla" by a small margin.

Both the films are in neck-to-neck race in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and the rest of India. But "Jilla" has taken a huge lead in Kerala as Vijay and Mohanlal enjoy a good fan following in the state. "Veeram" performance has not been as good as "Jilla", but the film has managed to fetch in decent collections.

In overseas markets, "Jilla" and "Veeram" are performing exceptionally well. On the whole, both the action-packed entertainers are turning to be big hits in the film career of Vijay and Ajith.

After a span of seven years, films of both the actors clashed on the same day at the box office. The clash created twitter war among fans of "Thala" (Ajith) and "Thalapathy" (Vijay). While trade experts were eager to know which film will emerge as the winner, distributors were worried over the clash as they felt that the films might eat into each other's business.

Fortunately, "Veeram" and "Jilla" have performed equally well at the box office. The Pongal holidays have worked in the films' favour and they fetched amazing collections in 10 days at the box office.

It remains to be seen how the film fares in the coming days. There are no big Tamil releases for at least a week, but Salman Khan's Hindi film "Jai Ho" is set to hit the screens on 24 January. Whether the release of "Jai Ho" will affect "Veeram" and "Jilla" is something one might want to wait and watch.
