The BMC Elections 2026 are underway across all 227 wards in Mumbai. Among the early voters were Bollywood couple Akshay Kumar and his wife, Twinkle Khanna, who were the first to exercise their democratic right. Akshay Kumar urged Mumbaikars to vote and insisted that it is the birthright of every citizen.
Several photos and videos of Akshay Kumar giving interviews to the media after casting his vote have gone viral. Another video shows a fan touching Akshay Kumar's feet as he returned from voting.
It so happened that a young girl approached Akshay seeking help, as her father is in debt and she needed financial assistance. Akshay was seen returning to his car after voting when the young girl, holding a paper in her hand, said, "Sir, mere papa bhot bade karje mein hain" (My father is in a huge debt, please help him get out of it). Akshay asked his security team to take the girl's contact number. She later touched his feet, but the actor stopped her, saying, "Beta aisa mat kar" (Don't do that, child).
After casting his vote, Akshay Kumar also spoke to the paparazzi present at the polling station as he left the venue. He said, "This is the day that the remote control lands in our hands. I appeal to all Mumbaikars to vote."
Netizens had mixed reactions to Akshay Kumar's gesture, many said that he could have helped right away, some said he avoided, and many hailed his gesture.
A user wrote, "Salman Khan& akshay kumar bhot bde dil ke h (Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar are big hearted)" one wrote, with another sharing, "Nice.. Akshay Kumar Sir great button."
Another posting, "If you are helping someone, this is called Herogiri."
The third one said, "Akki heart is so pure @akshaykumar. Really great of Akshay sir", with one saying, "Legend for a reason".
"This helping nature should always be first !!! Hopefully she gets the help," one shared.

Employers have been directed to allow staff two to three hours off to vote, while schools across all cities will remain shut on polling day. The civic election will see around 1,700 candidates contesting across 227 wards in Mumbai. Amid the election, security has been tightened across Maharashtra.
