"The Blacklist" is all set to return with season 3 in October and as a build-up, the showrunners have been dropping major hints about what fans can expect in the upcoming season.

In the season 2 finale, we saw that Liz murdered Attorney General Tom Connolly, putting her on FBI's Most Wanted. And now Liz, along with Red, is on the run in NBC's crime drama.

While fans wait for Liz and Red's story to continue, it has been reported that the show will have a new format. What happens when agents, who pin Liz and Red down, themselves become fugitives? Clearly, when the tables have turned around, it's understood that the approach to the story will also have to change.

"If you break open the entire task force, then it will be challenging to try to find the procedural aspect of the show again. With 22 episodes a year, it does benefit the show to have some kind of a formula ... but we are going to sort of break open a lot of the structure of the show," star Megan Boone said in an interview with Zap2It (via iDigital Times).

"The Blacklist" season 3 will have a different vibe compared to its previous seasons and will see several new additions to the blacklist. Executive producer John Eisendrath told TVLine that the season will answer various unanswered questions of the past.

"The hunt for Red and Liz... is a slightly more serialised story than we've told in the past. One thing viewers shouldn't expect in the early run of fresh episodes — concrete answers about Liz's relationship to Red. In the course of 22 episodes, we will of course give more answers about the past. But at the moment the season opens, we are focused entirely on the present,"  Eisendrath said.

Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly has reported that "X-Men: First Class" alum Edi Gathegi will debut as the new villain in the premiere episode tilted "The Troll Hunter" of the upcoming season.

The report said that Gathegi will play Mr. Solomon, a man who handles the dirty work for the Cabal. The report has further described Mr Solomon's character as "a monster in gentleman's clothing," who is not friendly to Liz, Red or the people they care about.

Watch how the story of Liz and Red continues when "The Blacklist" season 3 premieres on 1 October on NBC.
