The upcoming season of "The Big Bang Theory" will see Amy and Sheldon hanging out as friends, and Amy realising that she wants to go back to being his girlfriend.

The episode entitled "The Platonic Permutation" is a Thanksgiving special, and it will see Amy and Sheldon going to the aquarium as friends.

The official synopsis for the episode reads:

It's Thanksgiving. Sheldon and Amy go on a lunch date to the aquarium as friends. Howard, Bernadette, Raj and Emily help out at a soup kitchen. Leonard and Penny make their first Thanksgiving dinner as a married couple. After accidentally revealing that he read Penny's journal, Leonard wears the lingerie he got her as way of apologizing!

According to a leaked description of the episode, which is set to be aired on 19 November, Amy will have such a good time with Sheldon that she will start missing how things were before she broke up with him.

Towards the end of the episode, viewers will see the former couple talking on the phone and Amy wondering if she can be his girlfriend again. This takes Sheldon by surprise as he had finally resigned to the fact that they cannot be more than friends.

"I excel at many things, but getting over you (or being your boyfriend) is not one of them. I think we should just be friends," Sheldon reportedly says.

However, this doesn't mean that he has given up on Amy. Twice during their journey to the aquarium, Sheldon questions Amy if she has slept with anyone else. Although both Amy and Sheldon have tried to date others during their split, it still looks like the duo would like nothing better than to get back together.

It remains to be seen when they will finally take the necessary steps to do so.

"The Big Bang Theory" is aired Thursdays on CBS.
