A court in West Bengal's Krishnanagar has issued an arrest warrant against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in a case over her alleged controversial remarks regarding the Indian Army.
The warrant was issued after Moitra allegedly failed to appear before the court despite being summoned several times.
Moitra is accused of making controversial and allegedly insulting remarks about the Indian Army and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Some of her comments regarding women wearing Tulsi Mala, burqa and hijab had also triggered controversy.
Following the remarks, a resident of Krishnanagar in Nadia district, Chayan Nandi, approached the court with a complaint against the TMC MP. His lawyer, Shirshendu Das, represented him before the court.
Speaking to the media, Das said summons had been issued to Moitra several times, directing her to appear in person before the Krishnanagar court. However, she allegedly did not appear on any of the dates.
The lawyer said the complaint concerned alleged indecent remarks about women, comments against the Union Home Minister and the Army, and alleged violation of women's modesty.
The arrest warrant was issued by Judicial Magistrate Third Court Judge Dibyendu Das after Moitra failed to appear despite repeated summons.
A case was registered against Moitra under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The allegations include outraging the modesty of women, promoting enmity between different groups, hurting religious sentiments, intimidation and hate speech.
A few days ago, Moitra had appeared at the Hogalberia police station in Nadia following a court order in another case. She later stayed overnight at the Circuit House in Krishnanagar.

Moitra subsequently alleged that she was harassed at the Circuit House during the night and claimed that the administration asked her to leave. BJP workers and supporters also gathered outside and protested for an extended period.
The TMC MP shared videos of the incident on social media and later wrote to the Lok Sabha Speaker regarding the episode.
