Breaking scores of hearts, "Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch recently announced his engagement to fiancée Sophie Hunter; but he thinks that fans will eventually grow to like her.

"The Imitation Game" actor believes that they will love his future bride as well because they love him. He said: "Since the woman I'm engaged to is as much a part of me as anything else in my life, if they like me, by extension they like her."

The 38-year-old actor further said that he has no problem with the attention he gets from his female fans. "I think most of it is good-natured and like anyone who's ever been in the public eye and kind of revered in a way that I've been by these fans, the possession only takes on a sinister quality if the [fan] is really not very secure," Cumberbatch said, CTV News reports.

According to Mirror, the British actor took the traditional route to break the news of his engagement. Earlier this month, his parents made the announement in the "Forthcoming Marriages" section of The Times newspaper. It read: "Mr BT. Cumberbatch and Miss S.I. Hunter: The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katharine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London."

The news came as a surprise to many of his fans. One fan tweeted "Can we all ignore the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch is engaged, ya, okay! He is still my husband!!!!" Another fan wrote," I miss dating #BenedictCumberbatch now that he's engaged... I will have to change all my life in that Damn fanfiction. [sic]," Entertainmentwise reports.

Cumberbatch met the British theatre and opera director on the set of "Burlesque Fairytales" in 2009, but began dating only in early 2014. Recently, the "August: Osage Country" star revealed that he will have "a very private wedding". Hunter and Cumberbatch made their first public appearance as a couple on 17 November, at the New York City premier of "The Imitation game"
