Just a few hours after "Man of Steel 2: Batman Vs Superman" director Zack Snyder tweeted the first look of Ben Affleck as Batman, the Internet went ablaze with a number of memes that labeled Affleck as one of the saddest Caped Crusaders ever.

Twitter users have photoshopped Batman into a number of hilarious situations, which include one where he looks dejected on his wedding day. Another meme is a Harry Potter-themed one, where Affleck is sad because Ron left Harry and Hermione.

Snyder's Twitpic has Batman standing next to his Batmobile, and fans are convinced that it is Affleck in the suit, and not a stand-in. The new movie stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Filming is expected to have begun in Detroit and the movie is scheduled for a May 6, 2016 release in the U.S.

Although Snyder previously received a lot of flak for his casting choices, he stood by his decision, stating in an interview that the actors fit the script.

"We know the material," Snyder said in a Los Angeles Times interview. "Unfortunately, the fans don't know the material. So, we're casting according to what's happening in the script. And we're hoping that leads to enough originality, enough perspective on what we're doing that you get something fresh and exciting. I understand the canon. I'm not crazy. I know what these characters need from a mythological standpoint."
