Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor's Befikre held 50-60 percent occupancy in metropolitan cities, which resulted in a decent day 1 domestic box office collection. Even Befikre reviews are near average and the critics say it's a must-watch for Singh's fans.

Befikre has collected Rs. 10.36 crore from the 2100 screens it was released in. It has successfully beaten the opening day record Udta Punjab (Rs. 10.05 crore).

"#Befikre has a double digit start... STRONG at plexes...Fri ₹ 10.36 cr. India biz," Taran Adarsh reported.

What could have caused such an impressive day 1 box office figure?

The pre-release hype around Befikre was immense. The kisses, the fresh-pairing and music, all have aided the film in achieving the numbers.

However, Singh couldn't beat Bajirao Mastani day 1 collection. The period film, which released on the same day as Shah Rukh Khan's Dilwale, had minted Rs 12.80 crore on its opening day. But the Sanjay Leela Bhansali's romantic-drama was released in 3050 screens.

Kapoor, on the other hand, has successfully whizzed past the day 1 collection of her debut film — Shuddh Desi Romance — which had raked in Rs. 7.75 crore at the domestic box office.

Befikre is expected to show growth over the weekend. Here's why?

Vidya Balan's Kahaani 2 is struggling to stay afloat and Dear Zindagi has run its course, making the job for Befikre easier. Also, there's been lot of noise around a particular scene, in which Singh is seen butt naked. If nothing else, this will surely drive audience to the theatres. The Aditya Chopra-directorial will enjoy a clean window until Dangal arrives in theatres on December 23.

In other news, Befikre was released in the overseas markets on December 9 and the figures from those circuits are impressive. It has apparently grossed more than Khan's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, which was also helmed by Chopra. However, RNBDJ was released in limited screens.

Here are the numbers:

Australia

Befikre: Rs. 19.86 lakh from 27 screens

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi: Rs. 19.57 lakh from 15 screens

New Zealand

Befikre –Rs. 8.25 lakh from 14 screens

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi: Rs. 3.34 lakh from 5 screens
