TV actress Smita Bansal, who rose to popularity with her role of Sumitra in longest running show "Balika Vadhu", has been embroiled in legal trouble. A case under section 498(A) has been registered against the talented actress and her family by her sister-in-law Megha Gupta.

According to reports, Gupta married Smita's brother Shaurabh Bansal back in 2009 and shifted to London. However, Gupta returned to her parents residing in Gurgaon earlier this year after a fallout with her husband and has reportedly complained of dowry harassment and domestic violence.

In the FIR, Gupta has reportedly charged Smita's brother and father of forcefully making her take up a job and taking Rs. 50 lakh from her. Gupta has also allegedly accused Smita of wearing her jewellery at a wedding in Jaipur back in 2010 without her permission.

When contacted by The Times of India, Smita refused to comment on the issue. However, her husband and TV director Ankush Mohla said: "The police hasn't gotten in touch with us and we are also getting to know about the complaint through the media. No one has contacted us from the police station, so we have no idea whether the news is fabricated or whether there's any truth in it. Until and unless we know what's it about, or we get a copy of the FIR, we don't know what to believe. Right now, we have no comments."

"It's come as a shock to us and there's not an iota of truth in all this. How is someone accusing us of all this? I hope that the media hears both sides of the story. We believe in the judicial system, and once they contact us, we will talk about the case and the truth will come out then," the daily quoted Mohla as saying.
