A tourist boat carrying around 35 passengers and four crew members exploded while on its way from Bali to Gili Islands in Indonesia on 15 September. According to local reports, a German woman and one other passenger were killed in the blast while at least 13 others were injured when the Gili Cat 2s fuel tank blew up. However, some reports said three people had died following the explosion.

Two of them died, 13 were injured, Bali police spokesman Made Sudana said, adding the explosion happened off the coast of Lombok. The injured count reportedly rose to 14 and authorities are still attempting to assess the total amount of damage and injury.

It seems there was some sort of explosion on the boat, so there was an emergency with the engine, Sudana added.

Passengers on board the fast boat included Korean, British, French, and German citizens.

The explosion happened five minutes after the boat departed, local police chief Sugeng Sudarso told AFP, adding the vessel had been about 200m from the port. He said the victims were mostly foreigners who were taken to a clinic in Manggis Village.

One of the passengers died from bad injuries after being hit by boat debris that also caused injuries in others, he added, although details about the deceased have not been confirmed.
