Popular south Indian scriptwriter KV Vijayendra Prasad, who is basking in the box office success of "Bajarangi Bhaijaan" and "Baahubali", is reportedly set to direct Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth.

It is being rumoured that KV Vijayendra Prasad, father of SS Rajamouli, is in discussion with Rajinikanth, the No. 1 actor of South Indian film industry, for his upcoming film.

Vijayendra Prasad and Rajinikanth met each other at a recent function where they discussed about doing a film together.

"Rajini sir met Vijayendra sir at a public function. They got talking about Baahubali. This is when Vijayendra sir pitched an idea to Rajini sir who instantly said yes," Rediff quoted a source close to the development as saying.

The scriptwriter confirmed the development.

"Rajinikanth sir is doing a film that I'll write and direct. After the release of Baahubali he felicitated me with a ponnadai (ceremonial golden cloth made of silk). I narrated a story that I wanted to direct. He liked it and said he would do it." Vijayendra Prasad told rediff.com.

It is also being rumoured that Vijayendra Prasad has already narrated the story to Rajinikanth. The story, which apparently has a political background, reportedly impressed Rajini Saar, who gave his oral consent for the movie, which is likely to go on floors in December 2016.

Rajinikanth, who was last seen dazzling the screens in "Lingaa", is set to start shooting for director Shankar's "Endhiran 2", which is a sequel to his blockbuster movie "Endhiran". After the release of this movie, the Tamil superstar is expected to take up Vijayendra Prasad's directorial venture.

Vijayendra Prasad started his career as a script writer for Nagarjuna's "Janaki Ramudu" in 1988. He has written scripts for more than 25 films, most them superhits at the box office. The huge success of the films also got him offers from Kannada and Hindi cinema.

"Simhadri" (2003), "Chatrapati" (2005), "Vikramarkudu" (2006), "Magadheera" (2009), "Rowdy Rathore" (2012), "Baahubali" (2015) and "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" (2015) are some of his hit movies. With "Baahubali" (2015) and "Bajrangi Bhaijaan", he took scriptwriting to a new level, resulting in the movies being applauded globally.

His son SS Rajamouli is one of the most successful directors of Indian cinema. He has directed 10 movies and all of them have been superhits at the box office. It will not be an exaggeration to say that Vijayendra Prasad's scripting has been a key factor for the success of 9 of 10 movies, except "Eaga".

Vijayendra Prasad has also directed three movies, "Arthanghi" (1996), "Sri Krishna" (2006) and Rajanna (2011). Besides, "Rajanna" starring Nagarjuna in the lead and directed by him, was also a big hit at the box office. His next movie with Rajinikanth will definitely be a landmark in Indian cinema, feel industry experts.
