The pro-dubbing movement in Sandalwood has got a fillip after SS Rajamouli shared his views in support of dubbing in Kannada. The Baahubali series creator said he wish to dub his latest movie in Kannada.

SS Rajamouli was in Ballari along with his family members to watch Baahubali 2 with fans in Radhika theatre recently. Later, responding to the question, he said, "I wish to dub my film in Kannada, but it is not in my hands. Film Chamber here tells us not to do so, while the audience want dubbing,"

He added, "It is a difficult situation. We cannot come to any conclusion immediately and I hope we will have a solution for the issue in the coming days."

A section of the audience has been demanding Baahubali 2 to be dubbed in Kannada. In fact, pro-dubbing people on Twitter have repeatedly requested the makers of the Prabhas-starrer to release the film in the native tongue of Karnataka.

An unofficial ban has been imposed in Karnataka by the anti-dubbing lobby for several decades. In the 1960s, the film industry spearheaded by many cultural icons and Sandalwood's matinee idol Dr Rajkumar decided not to encourage dubbed content in Kannada.

A few years ago, the Kannada Grahaka Koota took the issue to the Competition Commission of India (CCI), which passed the verdict in favour of dubbing, while terming the ban "illegal." Earlier efforts to dub movies from other languages to Kannada had met with little success due to the lack of co-operation within the industry.

The recent attempt to dub Tamil movie Yennai Arindhaal as Sathyadev IPS was met with opposition from some fringe groups, leading to the cancellation of many shows. However, the movie had some shows outside Bengaluru.
