It's "Baahubali" all the way at the Chennai box office. SS Rajamouli's masterpiece has worked big time at collection centres in Tamil Nadu's capital city, overpowering Kamal Haasan starrer "Papanasam".

In the first weekend, "Baahubali" has made a record ₹1.66 crore from 363 shows from Tamil and Telugu versions, reports Behindwoods. This is a record for a movie, which features Telugu actors in the lead roles.

Surprisingly, "Baahubali" managed to overpower a straight Tamil movie like "Papanasam" starring A-list Tamil actor Kamal Haasan. The Kollywood movie earned ₹84.85 lakh from 246 shows in the weekend.

The total business made by "Papanasam" by the end of its second weekend stands at ₹3.15 crore. Nonetheless, the trade figures show that the Tamil movie still enjoys good viewership as the movie has been loved by the family audience.

Hollywood movie "Jurassic World" is in the third position at the Chennai box office raking only ₹7.12 lakh from 45 shows. The total business done by the English flick by the end of its fifth weekend stands at ₹2.94 crore.

"Indru Netru Naalai" and Hollywood flick "Terminator Genisys" are in the fourth and fifth places by making ₹5.53 lakh and ₹2.95 lakh at the Chennai box office respectively.

SS Rajamouli directorial has not only got fantastic response in Chennai, but also in the whole of Tamil Nadu. The multilingual movie has got a never-before response from the audience here for a movie featuring non-Tamil star actors.

In the first two days, it has made ₹10.25 crore and the early prediction is that the flick has possibly ended the first weekend by making close to ₹17 crore from Tamil and Telugu versions. The audience turn out to the theatres on Sunday was very high and trade is expecting an earth-shattering profit for the people, who are involved in the business here. Mainly among them is K Gnanavel Raja, who is the distributor of the movie in Tamil Nadu.

"Baahubali" has crossed the ₹100-crore-mark in two days and the total gross of the movie in the first weekend has cross ₹150 crore, which is a new record for an Indian movie.
