German luxury carmaker Audi has added petrol variant to its new A6 sedan in India. The A6 35 TFSI costs Rs 45.90 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi and Mumbai).

The petrol variant replaces the 2.0-litre engine with a 1.8-litre TFSI engine and power has been increased to 188bhp. The engine is mated to seven speed S-Tronic automatic gearbox. A smaller engine has resulted in higher fuel efficiency and Audi claims 15.26kpl for the A6 35 TFSI. This is 12.7% more fuel efficient than before.

Audi said the new 1.8 litre TFSI engine is the new entry-level unit for the Audi A6. As an entry level car, the petrol variant is not available with the Matrix LED headlamps. The vehicle comes in LED lights as standard. Additionally, the petrol variant features rear lights with dynamic turn indicators, restyled bumpers and Audi single-frame grill.

The interior has been spruced with Milano leather upholstery. The front seats can be electrically adjusted and come with the driver memory function. Other features are the four-zone climate control, updated infotainment system and eight airbags.

"The new Audi A6 35 TFSI takes our success in the executive sedan segment a notch higher. The new 1.8 L turbocharged engine which is 200cc smaller than the outgoing engine offers a unique combination of power and also efficiency at the same time," said Joe King, Head, Audi India.

On 20 August, Audi launched the new Audi A6 named A6 Matrix in sole diesel engine. The diesel- powered A6 is priced at 49.5 lakh and is powered by a 2.0-litre TDI engine generating 188bhp.

The A6 will be pitted against Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series and Jaguar XF.
