Many Bollywood celebrities have come forward to support the victims of the Assam floods. Actor Kartik Aaryan has donated Rs. 1 crore to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. The official X account of the Assam Chief Minister announced the contribution, tweeting, "Gratitude to actor @TheAaryanKartik for his generous contribution of ₹1 crore to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. HCM Dr. @himantabiswa appreciated his commendable gesture and timely support toward state relief measures."
Ayushmann Khurrana has also donated Rs. 11 lakh towards the flood relief efforts. The official X account posted, "Shri Ayushmann Khurrana has extended his support to Assam's flood relief efforts by contributing ₹11 lakh online to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. HCM Dr. @himantabiswa has expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the generous contribution and his solidarity with the people of Assam during this challenging time."
One of the first celebrities to speak up about the Assam floods was Bhumi Pednekar. At a time when the country was focused on student protests, Bhumi shared a video on social media urging people to support and help the flood victims.
Later, Alia Bhatt also shared an Instagram Story urging everyone to extend help to those affected by the floods. Reportedly, Salman Khan also stepped in to support the victims through his NGO, Being Human. A source close to the Maatrubhumi actor told India Today that food packets and essential supplies are already being distributed, while the next phase of relief work will include ration kits, temporary shelters, and the rebuilding of damaged schools and hospitals.
Meanwhile, the flood situation in Assam remained grim on Friday, with the death toll rising to 80 and more than 2.12 lakh people affected across eight districts.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), a total of 2,12,441 people have been affected in Golaghat, Sivasagar, Biswanath, Charaideo, Kamrup (Metro), Jorhat, Dhemaji and Nagaon districts.
The floods have affected 437 villages across 21 revenue circles, while 17,198.09 hectares of crop area remain submerged, causing extensive damage to agricultural land.
ASDMA said two more people lost their lives in Sivasagar district during the past 24 hours, taking the flood-related death toll in the state this season to 80.
Authorities are continuing relief and rescue operations across the affected districts. Relief camps have been set up at 21 locations to shelter displaced families, while district administrations are providing food, drinking water and other essential supplies.
Urban flooding also continues to affect parts of Kamrup Metropolitan district. Two localities — Padumbari and Tetelia-Boragaon Service Lane — remain affected due to waterlogging.
Meanwhile, ASDMA has issued a public advisory asking residents to stay away from the Dhansiri (South) River following a continuous rise in its water level at Numaligarh in Golaghat district.
"Due to the continuous increase in the water level of River Dhansiri (South) at Numaligarh in Golaghat district of Assam, citizens are advised to stay away from the river," the authority said in its advisory.
Officials said the state government and district administrations are closely monitoring the situation, particularly in vulnerable areas, as water levels in several rivers remain high. Authorities have also urged people living in low-lying and riverbank areas to remain alert and follow advisories issued by the district administration and disaster management agencies.
