The death toll from the ongoing floods in Assam has risen to 62, even as floodwaters have started receding in some parts of the state. A central inter-ministerial team has arrived to assess the extent of damage caused by the devastating floods and landslides.
According to officials, more than seven lakh people remain affected across 12 districts despite gradual improvement in the flood situation. Relief and rescue operations are continuing, with authorities providing food, medical assistance and temporary shelter to displaced families.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the flood situation and assured the Assam government of the Centre's full support for relief, rehabilitation and restoration efforts.
Officials said the central team's visit will help assess damage to infrastructure, agriculture and public property, paving the way for additional financial assistance from the Centre. Meanwhile, authorities continue to monitor river levels and weather conditions as several areas remain vulnerable to fresh flooding.
The annual monsoon floods have once again disrupted normal life in Assam, affecting thousands of families and damaging homes, roads and public infrastructure. Rescue agencies remain on alert as rehabilitation efforts continue across the affected districts.
