Two police officers were injured after stones were allegedly pelted at security personnel in Delhi's Connaught Place during a Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest, while activist Tushar Gandhi called for a solidarity demonstration in Mumbai in support of the party's planned agitation at Jantar Mantar.

The stone-pelting incident in Connaught Place was reported during an earlier phase of the CJP-led agitation in July, when protesters clashed with Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel. According to police, Assistant Commissioner of Police Jai Prakash and Connaught Place ACP Vivek Bhagat were among those injured during the violence. Police registered cases in connection with the incident.

The latest developments come amid renewed tensions surrounding the CJP's October 10 protest, which seeks the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee were detained by Delhi Police outside Lodhi Estate in Delhi on Saturday, amid the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar.

Anita Dipke, mother of Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke, has criticised the government following her son's detention aboard a flight at Delhi Airport. Questioning the police action, she said, "They have done something very wrong. The government should not have done this. You are unable to arrest people who commit rape so quickly, yet these young people are working for the country. How could you arrest them? The people in the government have acted wrongly..."

Tushar Gandhi calls for solidarity protest in Mumbai

Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and president of the organisation Hum Bharat Ke Log, called on Mumbaikars to join a solidarity protest at August Kranti Maidan on Saturday.

In a message posted on social media, Gandhi urged people to participate in the demonstration scheduled for 3:30 pm in support of the CJP's protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. He said he was prepared to face detention while participating in the demonstration.

However, Mumbai Police said no permission had been granted for the proposed gathering. A police official also said that August Kranti Maidan was not an authorised protest site for the proposed demonstration.

CJP protest in Delhi and security arrangements

The CJP's proposed demonstration at Jantar Mantar centres on demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The party has raised concerns about voter deletions and electoral transparency, while the Election Commission has rejected allegations of wrongdoing.

Delhi Police denied permission for the October 10 gathering and deployed additional personnel across the national capital. Security measures included barricades, surveillance, checks at key locations and preventive detentions of people attempting to reach the protest site.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and party spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were also detained shortly after arriving at Delhi airport, as authorities stepped up measures ahead of the planned demonstration.

The developments in Delhi and Mumbai have intensified the debate over protest restrictions, police action and the right to peaceful assembly.
