British chipset and software design major ARM Holdings on Monday launched new-age Cortex A75, A55 CPU CPU cores, which is expected boost Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based machine learning in smart devices.

ARM in their pursuit to rearchitect the compute experience for AI and other human-like computer experiences in mobile devices, has developed proprietary flexible big.LITTLE architecture-class Cortex A75 and the A55 CPU cores with DynamIQ technology.

"They come with dedicated instructions for AI performance tasks via DynamIQ technology, which is expected to deliver 50x AI performance increases over the next 3-5 years", ARM said in a statement.

They also feature ARM TrustZone technology and increased functional safety capabilities for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving.

Another notable aspect of ARM's new Cortex A75 and the Cortex A55 is that, they can be clubbed in a single cluster. Semi conductor-makers such as Qualcomm, Samsung and MediaTek, among others will have the freedom to tweak CPU core combination (in pairs of 4+2, 2+6 1+7, etc) up to 8 units (octa-core) to get optimised results in terms of performance, design, and energy, and other personalisation options. For instance, they can incorporate 2 Cortex-A75 + 4 Cortex-A55 cores in to a single cluster to get best battery performance or use other best possible combinations to get more performance out of the device.

The company claims that Cortex-A75 will offer 16% more memory throughput, 30% extra performance and yet consume less power compared to its predecessor Cortex-A72. On the other hand, The Cortex-A55 is said to offer 2x more memory efficiency, 10x more scalability and 15% more power efficiency than the Cortex-A53.

To further enhance the System-on-Chips (SoCs) for distributed intelligence and device-based Machine Learning (ML), the company has introduced Mali G72 graphics processor unit. It is based on the Bifrost architecture, is designed for the new and demanding use cases of ML on device, as well as High Fidelity mobile gaming and mobile Virtual Reality (VR).
