Bollywood's one of the most loved singers, Arijit Singh, who has swooned an entire generation with his songs, left fans in shock when he announced that he had quit playback singing in Bollywood. However, he clarified that he hasn't left the music industry and is now keen on exploring Indian classical music.

Days after announcing his decision, Arijit collaborated with composer duo Salim–Suleman for a brand new single titled "Into You."

The romantic number, jointly crooned by Arijit and Ananya Sharma, reached audiences ahead of Valentine's Day.

Penned by Shraddha Pandit and Shivansh Jindal, Into You delves into the emotion of being instantly drawn to someone without being able to express it.

The music video features Dharmik Samani and Ananya Sharma.

Apart from that, today the new song 'Ishq Ka Fever' from the upcoming Shahid Kapoor-starrer 'O'Romeo' was unveiled. The track has been crooned by superstar singer Arijit Singh.

The soulful romantic song is composed by Vishal Bhardwaj and written by Gulzar. Featuring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, the track makes an arresting first move, opening with a fiery line delivered by Farida Jalal.

Vishal Bhardwaj, like many of Arijit's fans, isn't surprised by Arijit's reappearance and has even urged him to take back his sanyaas and start singing again.

Vishal Bhardwaj asked Arijit to take back his sanyaas, calling the decision to retire unfair.

Vishal shared a video on social media in which he was seen singing a song recorded by Arijit.

"Hey Arijit... Till a few days back, while we were jamming on this song (you were shooting the video), I didn't know this would be one of my last film songs with you. This is unfair. #TakeBackYourSanyaas. It's unacceptable," he wrote.

However, with one announcement and more than one track already released, netizens feel Arijit's retirement announcement seems more like a PR move for films, as he doesn't appear to be going anywhere.

Sharing his decision earlier, Arijit wrote, "Hello, Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much love over the years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not going to be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey."

He expressed gratitude for the journey so far, writing, "I am not going to be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey."

Reportedly, the singer is also set to make his directorial debut with an upcoming film. In 2018, Arijit directed the Bengali film 'Sa', a lyrical coming-of-age story centred on a young boy's relationship with music.

Cast of O Romeo

'O'Romeo' also stars Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Tamannaah Bhatia and others. The film blends intense action with romance and is inspired by Hussain Ustra's real-world underworld milieu, adapted from Mafia Queens of Mumbai.

O'Romeo is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and is set to release in cinemas on February 13, 2026.
