Apple MacBook Pro M6: What's new?
The new 14-inch MacBook Pro introduces the M6 chip to the entry-level configuration of Apple's professional laptop lineup. The processor is designed to deliver faster computing, graphics and on-device AI performance.
Apple says the M6-powered MacBook Pro delivers up to 30% faster graphics and up to 25% faster AI performance compared with its M5 predecessor. The company also claims battery life of up to 24 hours, although actual performance will depend on usage and configuration.
The M6 chip uses a 2-nanometre manufacturing process and features a 12-core CPU, a 12-core GPU and an upgraded Neural Engine. The architecture is designed to improve performance and power efficiency while handling demanding workloads, including AI tasks.
However, customers looking for higher-end performance can still choose MacBook Pro configurations with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. These models are positioned for professionals working with intensive video editing, 3D graphics, software development and other demanding applications.
Apple iMac M6: What's new?
The 24-inch iMac receives an upgrade from the M4 chip to the M6, bringing improved computing performance to Apple's all-in-one desktop.
The new iMac is available in two configurations. The base model features a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, while the higher configuration comes with a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU.
Apple has also highlighted improvements to connectivity and storage performance. The iMac combines its computer hardware and display in a single unit, making it an option for users who want a desktop setup without a separate computer tower.
The starting price of ₹1,74,900 places the new iMac in the premium all-in-one desktop category in India. The higher configuration costs ₹1,99,900, while eligible education buyers can purchase the models at discounted prices.
Apple M6 chip focuses on AI performance
The M6 chip is built using a 2-nanometre process and is designed to improve both performance and energy efficiency. Its CPU and GPU upgrades are intended to benefit everyday computing, creative work and AI processing directly on the device.
Apple has increasingly focused on on-device AI, allowing compatible tasks to run locally rather than relying entirely on cloud-based processing. The updated Neural Engine and GPU architecture are designed to accelerate supported AI workloads.
Performance gains will vary depending on the application, task and configuration, and not every AI feature will be available on every device or in every region.
When will the new iMac and MacBook Pro be available in India?
Apple has scheduled pre-orders for the new iMac and MacBook Pro models to begin on October 28, 2026. The devices are expected to be available from November 6 through Apple's online and retail channels and authorised resellers.
Customers planning to purchase either device should compare the configurations based on their requirements. The iMac is suited to users looking for a desktop with an integrated display, while the MacBook Pro is designed for people who need a portable computer for work, creative projects and demanding applications.
With the M6 upgrade, Apple is expanding its latest chip technology to more Mac products while retaining M5 Pro and M5 Max options for customers who need higher-end performance.
