Apple has officially launched its first-ever touchscreen MacBook Pro, marking a major shift in the company's approach to laptop design. Unveiled at its 'Pro and Tell' event on Wednesday, October 28, the new MacBook Pro features an OLED display, touch gesture support, Apple's M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, and a redesigned interface.
The launch marks the end of Apple's long-standing resistance to introducing touchscreen support on its Mac laptops. The new models retain the traditional keyboard and trackpad while allowing users to interact directly with the display.
Apple MacBook Pro touchscreen: India price and availability
In India, the new touchscreen MacBook Pro is priced at Rs 3,49,900 for the 14-inch model, while the 16-inch variant costs Rs 4,09,900. The laptops are scheduled to be available from November 9.
With the new lineup, Apple is targeting professionals, creators and users who require powerful hardware for demanding tasks, including video editing, software development, 3D rendering and artificial intelligence workloads.

Apple MacBook Pro: What's new?
The biggest highlight of the new MacBook Pro is its touchscreen display. Users can scroll through documents, zoom into images, draw directly on the screen and annotate content without relying entirely on the trackpad.
The touchscreen functionality is also designed to support professional workflows. Designers can interact with 3D models, while music producers can adjust controls directly on the display.
Apple has redesigned the interface to make touch interactions more convenient without replacing the familiar keyboard and trackpad experience.

Another major addition is Dynamic Island, a feature previously associated with Apple's iPhones. On the MacBook Pro, it provides access to Spotlight search, Live Activities, music controls and other information from the top of the screen.
The new laptops also feature a tandem OLED display, branded by Apple as PROLED XDR. The display promises deeper blacks, improved contrast and better colour accuracy. It supports ProMotion technology with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and peak brightness of 2,000 nits for HDR content. Buyers can also opt for a nano-texture finish to reduce reflections.

Apple MacBook Pro: Processor, battery and connectivity
The new touchscreen MacBook Pro models are powered by Apple's M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, designed to handle demanding professional workloads.
Apple has also introduced Neural Accelerators in the GPU cores to improve performance for AI-related tasks. The laptops offer storage configurations of up to 16TB, with the company claiming up to twice the storage speed.
Other upgrades include a redesigned thermal system, an improved six-speaker audio setup, a studio-quality three-microphone array, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support.
In terms of connectivity, the laptops retain HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 charging and a headphone jack, alongside three Thunderbolt 5 ports.
Apple claims the new MacBook Pro offers up to 24 hours of battery life and can charge up to 50 per cent in 30 minutes. The redesigned models are also lighter than their predecessors.

Why is Apple's first touchscreen MacBook Pro significant?
Apple's decision to introduce touchscreen support on the MacBook Pro marks a significant change in its product strategy. The company had resisted touchscreen laptops for years, with former CEO Steve Jobs criticising the concept in 2010 on ergonomic grounds.
Apple later introduced the Touch Bar on MacBook Pro models in 2016, replacing the traditional function keys with a touch-sensitive strip. However, the company returned to physical function keys with its 2021 redesign and discontinued the Touch Bar in 2023.

The new MacBook Pro takes a different approach by bringing touch controls directly to the main display while retaining the conventional laptop experience.
With an OLED display, Dynamic Island, powerful processors and upgraded connectivity, the touchscreen MacBook Pro represents one of the most significant changes to Apple's professional laptop lineup.
