Apple's 2013 flagship tablets - iPad Air and iPad Mini 2 officially went on sale in the Indian market today, two months after making their global debut.
The new fifth-generation Apple tablet sports 9.7-inch Retina (2048x1536p) display boasting IGZO (Indium gallium zinc oxide) screen technology. Despite boasting metal based back-cover, it weighs just a little over one pound (469 g) and is 20-percent slimmer than the previous versions; hence the name iPad Air.
The other striking feature is that it boasts the most advanced chipset Apple A7, a 64-bit architecture based efficient dual-core processor. To lessen the work load on the main CPU, Apple has planted another co-processor M7 to independently handle the motion related tasks of the phone's gyroscope and accelerometers.
iPad Air ships with the new iOS v7.0 out-of-the box (v7.0.4 update now available) and also houses a 5.0-meagpixel iSight camera with 5-element lens, 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera with HD (720p) video recording and face-detection abilities and a battery with capacity of 10 hours of internet browsing (via Wi-Fi).
On the other hand, iPad Mini 2 (aka iPad Mini with Retina Display) sports a 7.9-inch screen with 326 ppi (pixels per inch) resolution and packs pretty much the same internal hardware seen inside its elder sibling, sans the battery capacity (23.8-watt/hour).
As expected, premium Apple iPads come with expensive price-tags; the price ranges between ₹35,900 and ₹65,900 for iPad Air, while iPad Mini 2 costs around ₹28,900 to ₹58,900.
