Apple Hikes MacBook, iPad Prices in India by Up to Rs 1 Lakh: Check New Price ListAI

Apple has increased the prices of its MacBook and iPad lineup in India, with some models seeing a steep jump of up to Rs 1 lakh. The revised pricing comes just days after Apple CEO Tim Cook said that price hikes were becoming unavoidable due to rising memory costs in the global supply chain.

The updated prices are already reflected on Apple's India website, where multiple MacBook models are now listed significantly higher than their launch prices. The revision affects both the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lineup, along with Apple's newly introduced budget laptop segment.

The MacBook Air with the M5 chip, which was launched in India at Rs 1,19,900, is now priced at Rs 1,49,900, marking an increase of Rs 30,000. Similarly, the 15-inch MacBook Air has gone up from Rs 1,44,900 to Rs 1,79,900, an increase of Rs 35,000.

The price revision is even steeper in the MacBook Pro lineup. The base 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 chip and 16GB RAM, launched at Rs 1,69,900, now costs Rs 2,39,900. This represents a sharp increase of Rs 70,000, making it one of the biggest price revisions across Apple's recent portfolio in India.

Even Apple's affordable segment has not been spared. The MacBook Neo, introduced as the company's most budget-friendly laptop, has become costlier by Rs 10,000. The laptop, which was expected to attract students and first-time buyers, now starts at Rs 79,900 instead of Rs 69,900.

Apple MacBook Neo has increased from Rs 69,900 to Rs 79,900. MacBook Air (13 inch) has increased from Rs 1,19,900 to Rs 1,49,900. 14 inch MacBook Pro M5 has increased from Rs 1,89,900 to Rs 2,39,900. Mac Mini has increased from Rs 59,900 to Rs 94,900.

The price hike is not limited to India. Globally, the iPad Air now starts at $749 instead of $599, while the iPad Pro has gone up to $1,199 from $999. Higher-end desktop-class machines, including Mac Studio models, have also become significantly more expensive in several markets.

Apple has also revised the pricing of its MacBook lineup globally. The new MacBook Neo now starts at $699 instead of $599. The base MacBook Air has increased from $1,099 to $1,299, while the 14-inch MacBook Pro now starts at $1,999, compared to its earlier price of $1,699.

These changes come shortly after Apple CEO Tim Cook warned that price increases were becoming difficult to avoid because of ongoing pressure on component supply chains, particularly memory.

Why has Apple increased prices?

Memory has become a critical component in Apple's product strategy as newer Macs and iPads are increasingly being equipped with higher base RAM and unified memory architecture. With memory supply tightening and contract prices rising, manufacturers are beginning to pass on part of the increased cost to consumers.

In a statement to India Today Tech, Apple said, "We have never seen a component price increase this much, this quickly. We have shielded our customers from these increases so far, but we have now reached a point where we need to begin raising prices on a number of products, including today's increases for iPad and Mac."

In India, the impact is more pronounced because Apple products are already positioned in the premium segment. A price increase of Rs 30,000 to Rs 70,000 within weeks of launch is unusual, particularly for the Mac lineup, which typically maintains stable pricing after introduction. The revised pricing is expected to influence buying decisions, especially among students, professionals upgrading from older Macs, and first-time Apple buyers.

According to CyberMedia Research Vice President Prabhu Ram, the price hike reflects the broader market situation. Speaking to India Today Tech, he said, "Price increases are already becoming visible across multiple consumer electronics categories. Even Apple, long regarded as the industry's benchmark for supply chain resilience, has begun passing higher component costs on to consumers. That is a strong signal that pricing pressures have reached a level that even the most sophisticated absorption strategies cannot fully offset. For OEMs with less scale and supply chain leverage, the impact is likely to be even more pronounced."

At the same time, Apple's pricing strategy suggests the company is prioritising component availability and stable product configurations over maintaining earlier price points. With global demand for high-performance laptops continuing to grow, Apple appears to be aligning prices with supply-side realities rather than regional market expectations.
