East Bengal defender Anwar Ali on Tuesday, April 25, suffered a mild heart attack while on his way back home post training. The 32-year-old central defender from Punjab, who also played for Mohun Bagan in the past, was soon rushed to the Medica Superspecialty Hospital, located on the EM Bypass in South Kolkata.

According to local reports, Anwar, who was returning home with his teammate Gurwinder Singh, has undergone an Angioplasty surgery at 3 pm IST.

Anwar is under the supervision of Dr Sunip Bandyopadhyay, who said the footballer had suffered a 'mild heart attack'. He is, however, stable now and out of danger.

"He was admitted with discomfort and uneasiness. The ECG and angiogram report showed no major blockages. He's is doing okay and stable now," PTI quoted Bandyopadhyay, the cardiologist at the hospital, as saying. "He is young and age is on his side.

"He should be fit to play before the Federation Cup. We are awaiting some other blood reports to see when he can be discharged," the doctor added.
