Japanese consumer electronics giant, Sony has begun rolling out Android v4.3 Jelly Bean OS update to flagship smartphones- Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z globally, including India.

The company confirmed the news with an official blog post.

"The next Sony software rollout for Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra starts right about now*... We've been working to blend our Sony Xperia software with Google's Jelly Bean release to create some cool user experiences (if we say so ourselves) - in addition to a few performance tweaks here & there," the post said.

The new Android v4.3 OS (build number: 14.2.A.0.290) update is available via OTA (Over-The-Air) and can also be download manually through PC using Sony suite - PC Companion (for Windows users) and Bridge (for Apple Mac users)

Sony Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra owners can check their smartphone for OTA update (Wi-Fi connection recommended):

Settings > About phone > Build number / version

According to official change-log, the new firmware update will be bring in new camera app 'Smart Social Camera' to Xperia Z Ultra (Xperia Z1 already has this feature), enahnced security, refreshed media apps - WALKMAN, Album and Movies with Sony entertainment network cloud service integration, improved messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect, Small apps, Track id, Sony Select, new custom UI - Xperia Themes, new user-interface for email applications, project butter performance and UI customization, smoother graphics and more.

Other expected enhancements expected with the Android v4.3 Jelly Bean OS include:

Keyboard and input: The keypad is said to get an improved algorithm for tap- typing, making text messaging less cumbersome. It is also said to enhance the gamepad.

Dial Pad: Enhanced Auto-complete feature will predict more accurate phone-numbers and names. Users will also have the options to enable or disable the feature at phone settings.

Location: Feature will enable the phone to automatically detect the Wi-Fi hot-spots without turning on the Wi-Fi mode all the time.

Settings: New tab has been introduced to let users check which applications are active or disabled.

Language support: More dialects are included in the new v4.3 Jelly Bean OS.

Graphics: V4.3 will now allow smartphones to support the industry's latest Open GL ES 3.0 graphics.

Network: Bluetooth Smart (Low Energy) support will make smartphone to use less power while transferring data between devices.   

Daydream:  This new feature will enable user to browse through the photos via easily accessible albums.

Restricted Access: Once updated with 4.3 Jelly Bean, users can create profiles for guest user with restricted access to apps and other contents.
