Bollywood's once celebrated couple Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha might soon be seen in the same frame if the duo signs up for Feroz Nadiadwala's "Welcome Back".

The comedy sequel will require Big B slipping into the role of a mafia head and veteran actress Rekha as a wealthy fashionista.

Director Anees Bazmee was quoted by Mumbai Mirror confirming the report, "Bachchan saab has done almost every role in his life but I can assure you that this one will be something terrific and special for him. The role will also be much longer than what Feroz saab essayed."

"Nadiadwala has bounced it off Rekhaji too. I have yet to meet both of them, which I plan to do n the next seven-eight days," he added.

If signed for the part, Senior Bachchan and Rekha could soon share screen space after a gap of 32 years. They were last seen in Yash Chopra's "Silsila" (1981), a daring attempt of the director to portray the real-life turbulence of their romance on reel.

It is no secret that Amitabh had an intense relationship with the actress during the heydays. The couple went on to star in a couple of dozen films together.

As the actor married fellow actress Jaya Bachchan, the affair turned sour with Rekha's reluctance to settle with the 'other woman' tag in the relationship.

The affair was further confirmed by Yash Chopra in an interview to BBC. He said that during the "Silsila" shooting he was always tense in the scenes involving Rekha, Jaya and Anmitabh since what he was doing was capturing the real-life love triangle among them.

Post the film, it was reported that the actor had moved on and ignored Rekha with whom he had ironically shot "Do Anjaane", their first film together.

An explosive interview from the feisty actress to Filmfare in 1984 left no doubt about Bollywood's most talked about affair.

Rekha not only confessed to the affair but defended Bachchan's refusal to acknowledge their relationship.

"I love him (Amitabh) he loves me - that's it! I don't care what anybody thinks. If he would have reacted to me like that in private I would have been very disappointed. But has he ever done that? I ask you. So why should I care about what he has said in public. Not that he has 10 rollicking affairs! Mr. Bachchan is still old-fashioned.He doesn't want to hurt anybody. So why hurt his wife?" she exclaimed.

To cool off matters, Big B in recent years had shed inhibitions and expressed interest in working with his ex-flame if the script is apt.

Now, it remains to be seen whether the iconic pair will reunite or give the film a miss citing petty reasons.
