A 40-year-old domestic worker has been arrested for allegedly stealing a diamond-studded gold bangle worth around ₹5 lakh from the residence of actress Ameesha Patel's mother, Asha Patel, in Mumbai.

The accused has been identified as Seema Vinod Ghate, a resident of Virar. According to the Marine Drive Police, she had been working as a domestic help at Asha Patel's residence for around one-and-a-half years.

Bangle allegedly stolen in January

According to the police, the bangle went missing from the Patel family's Churchgate residence in January 2026.

Asha Patel reportedly suspected Ghate's involvement and had been asking her for several months to admit to the alleged theft and return the jewellery. However, the bangle was not returned, following which Asha approached the Marine Drive Police and filed a complaint.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The case was initially registered against an unidentified woman.

Police trace accused to Virar

The Marine Drive Police Crime Detection Team launched an investigation and traced Ghate to Virar.

She was subsequently arrested and produced before a court, which remanded her to police custody till September 15. Police are now investigating the alleged theft and attempting to recover the missing jewellery.

The bangle has not yet been recovered, and investigators are also checking whether the accused has any previous criminal record.
