Srinagar, June 27 (ANI): With only a day left for Hindu pilgrimage of Amarnath Yatra to commence, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir closed one of the routes in Pahalgam due to heavy snowfall. The pilgrims are now left with only one route, that is, through the Baltal base camp route. Addressing a news conference in Srinagar, Chief Executive Officer of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), RK Gupta said Pahalgam route will remain closed for first three days. Thousands of pilgrims undertake this journey to the shrine cave to worship an ice stalagmite called Shivlinga, believed to be the symbol of Lord Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction and regeneration. The cave containing the holy Shiva shrine is located at a snow-capped mountainous peak of the Himalayas, 290 kilometres northwest of the Poonch district in Kashmir. Gupta added that pilgrims were briefed about the journey and hoped for their safety and security.
