Sonakshi Sinha's "Akira," which opened on a slow note, maintained similar pace in its collection on its second day. The film did not witness much growth at Indian box office on day 2.
"Akira" has collected Rs.5.30 crore at the domestic box office on Saturday, thereby taking its two-day total box office collection to Rs. 10.45 crore nett.
Made on a budget of Rs.30 crore, (cost of production being Rs.22 crore and Prints and Advertising at Rs. 8 crore), "Akira" has already recovered half of its total cost through satellite and music rights, which were sold at Rs.15.5 crore.
"Akira" is expected to collect a good amount over the long weekend (Monday- Ganesh Chaturthi holiday) despite having received mixed reviews from critics and audience. Also, since no big ticket film has released this week alongside "Akira," it is expected to enjoy a good run for the next couple of days.
The positive word-of-mouth may also help the film draw the audience to the theatres. Also, since last week's release "A Flying Jatt" is struggling at the box office, movie-goers may opt for "Akira" instead of the Tiger Shroff starrer.
Considering this is the first time Sonakshi is seen in a strong female-centric film, "Akira" was expected to open to packed houses, but the audience stayed away from the theatres on its opening day, probably because of the Bharat Bandh. Despite this setback, "Akira" did manage to beat the opening day domestic box office collection record of "NH10" (Rs.3.35 crore) and "Mardaani" (Rs. 3.46 crore), both of which were female-centric films.
